A SPECIAL flag is being flown at Clacton Town Hall ahead of Armed Forces Day.

Hoisted during a ceremony which included standard bearers from the Royal British Legion, the service was overseen by Reverend David Murray, who is chaplain for Tendring Council chairman Dan Land.

More than 30 people attended the ceremony on Monday, which the council’s Armed Forces Champion Chris Amos said was a solemn affair.

He said: “The role played by our Armed Forces is so important, and it is absolutely right that we recognise this. As the prayers and readings indicated, this extends from those who have fought and died for justice and peace in the past, and those serving today to uphold those values and protect the innocent.

“I am pleased with how many people attended the flag raising and would like to thank them all for coming.”

Armed Forces Day is on Saturday.
