The origins of Crittall’s dates back to 1849 when Francis Berrington Crittall bought the Bank Street ironmongery in Braintree and in1884 when it was his son Francis Henry Crittall began to manufacture metal windows.
By 1918 it had 500 employees and in 1907 had launched Detroit Steel Product Co, the first of its kind in the U S.
During the First World War, its factories were used in munitions production and since then it has undergone several corporate changes and opening a new factory and head office in Witham in 2007.
