A BLOODIED man was rushed to hospital after being smashed in the face with a can.

Essex Police were called by the ambulance service after a man was discovered with a gash to his head.

The victim, in his 30s, had run into a building in Park Road, Colchester, after being chased.

Police have confirmed a 24-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: “We were called by the ambulance service at around 3.40pm on Tuesday, after a man suffered a cut to his head in Colchester.

“We received information that a man aged in his 30s ran into building in Park Road after being chased.

“We believe the man was struck around the head with a can after having an argument with a man known to him.

“A 24-year-old man form Stanway was arrested in Lexden Road, Colchester, at around 3.55pm on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

“He has been released on bail until July 7.”

A parent said St Mary’s School in nearby Lexden Road had gone into lockdown as a result of the incident.

However, a spokesman for the schools said although they were made aware about an incident nearby, teachers and pupils were not impacted by what had happened

She said: “St Mary’s was made aware of an incident that took place in the grounds of a residence on Lexden Road, Colchester.

“Police were contacted and arrived to deal with the situation.

“Both students and staff at the senior school were unaffected.”

Staff from other nearby schools were also spotted lining the busy street.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust confirmed a man was treated at the scene for head injuries.
