MORE than 100 Harwich Society members packed out a pub for a meeting.

A total of 115 members attended the Harwich Society's annual general meeting at The Navigator, in Barrack Lane, last Friday night.

Colin Farnell, the society's chairman, said the society continues to flourish with a healthy financial position, a growing membership and a large number of active volunteers staffing all of the society’s visitor attractions and events.

Following the re-election of the three trustees whose turn it was to stand down under the society’s constitution, all of the officers and trustees remain in post having been assured of the full confidence of the members.

The highlight of the evening was the illustrated talk given by the Harwich Society’s vice chairman and archivist, David Whittle, titled ‘Fings Ain’t Wot they Used to Be’ in which past and present images and maps of sites within Harwich and Dovercourt were shown whilst David provided commentary.

Mr Farnell said: "The Harwich Society achieves a lot and the life blood of the society is its members.

"There are many organisations that would like to have 100 members in total, let alone have 115 attend the annual general meeting.

"As always, David Whittle’s fascinating talk was the highlight of the evening and everyone went home very happy."
