A MOTHER on a mission has just completed two back to back marathons - raising £1,000 for her chosen charity.

Sandra Johnson, of Merivale Road, Lawford, has just completed both the Brighton Marathon followed by the London Marathon.

The mum-of-six managed to raise about £1,000 for Whizz Kidz - a charity which provides wheelchairs, buggies and trikes to disabled children to help them lead active childhoods.

The 47-year-old is a self-confessed fitness fanatic after reaching 21st and struggling to walk three years ago.

She managed to lose 10st and started training for the double marathon challenge.

Sandra ran the Brighton Marathon on April 14 in just under six hours.

She said soon after the run, she had to recover while keeping active and work with her personal trainer to prepare for the London Marathon last Sunday.

Sandra ran the London Marathon one second slower than the Brighton Marathon.

She said: "I felt amazing and still do, it's a real high and I feel like I can do anything.

"I've entered the ballot for London next year, but if I don't get a place I'm taking a year off marathons to work on speed in shorter distances and looking at returning to either Brighton or London in 2021."

She said the hardest part of the marathons was having to push through the pain of running, but she still enjoyed taking part.

"The training was definitely worth it, there's nothing like the feeling of reaching the finish line, especially when you've given it all - and even better when you know you've smashed your goals,"she added.

Sandra said she raised money for Whizz Kidz because her son Michael is disabled and feels the charity does a fantastic job.

She added: "I've raised about £1,000 so far but, there's still money coming in and the fundraising page is open for another couple months."
