A SAUSAGE slinging festival is being extended so quality bangers will feature on restaurant menus in Harwich.

During the Harwich Sausage Festival weekend, winning wieners will be incorporated on the menus of pubs and restaurants throughout the town.

The decision to extend the festival to form Harwich’s Sausage Fringe came from major interest and support from the pubs and restaurants of old Harwich.

Richard Oxborrow, a member of the sausage sub committee, said: “It is great that the Harwich Sausage Festival is now regarded as a feeder event with its winner automatically taking part in the national sausage championships.”

The announcement was made as members of Tendring Camra’s sausage sub committee presented the awards to the winning butchers in the 2018 event.

Last year’s winners were Warnes of Parkeston and Dovercourt for their pork, bacon and leek recipe and Becky’s Butchers of Great Bromley, for her pork and leek recipe which won the butchers’ class and overall sausage of the festival title.

The sausage festival will be taking place on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday November 3 this year.

It will see sausage throwing competitions, banger tasting and much more.

The event has been running in the town as a unique tradition since 2011.

This year there will be the usual pre-meat, a sausage throwing competition, public sausage tasting and the announcement of the best sausage from the tasting.
