READING about two suspects caught dumping 93 tyres in Purfleet recently leaves more questions than answers.

Why would it cost Thurrock Council over £20,000 to dispose of them?

That’s over £200 per tyre.

Where are the tyres now and who put them there?

And in the unlikely event the accused bother turning up to court, what sort of deterrent will be handed out?

This incident aside, the council continue bombarding the public with countless restrictions of dos and don’ts, van and trailer permits, etc. Although intended to improve matters, these rules have had the opposite effect.

Now as most fly-tipping (about 66%) is from household waste, may I suggest a six-month trial of collecting large items of household waste for FREE.

Then relax the permit system for vans and trailers? This will not include hazardous or commercial waste of course.

Remember, currently money made charging the public to collect large items from their property now is more than swallowed up by the cost of clearing up after fly-tippers (at £200 per tyre don’t forget).

How about it Thurrock Council?
