ABOUT 200 runners donned their capes for St Helena Hospice’s third Comic Hero Run.

The event took place at Castle Park in Colchester and saw children and adults of all ages dressed in fantastic costumes including an array of Marvel and Star Wars characters.

The fundraisers had a choice of running 10k, 5k or 1k to raise funds for hospice care.

Each fun run was opened by Star Wars characters Kylo Ren and Stormtroopers from costuming group UK Garrison, along with Batman and Ninja Turtle Raphael from the Invasion Colchester team.

Jessica Dellow, events and challenges manager at St Helena Hospice, said: “Our hero runners, from tiny tots to grown-ups, really got into the spirit of the event with their fantastic costumes and they showed their super powers by braving the chilly weather.”

She added: “Special thanks to the wonderful volunteers who donated their time and enthusiasm and for cheering everyone on, to Jackie Kilby for donating her time and face painting skills and to Eat Natural for providing yummy bars for participants.

“By taking part in the fun run and raising sponsorship, participants helped St Helena to help people face incurable illness and bereavement.”
