A prominent photographer is displaying stunning shots from across Essex at a village pub. for the rest of this month.

The All Things Bright and Beautiful photographic exhibition is at the Purleigh Bell’s Picture House in The Street until March 31.

The collection is by Mike Drane, a founding member of the Essex Monochrome Group.

For ten years, he has been capturing dramatic shots, including landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, nature and anything else that captures his eye.

He recently published a book of his work called Waterscape Essex - A Pictorial Journey of the Coast and Inland Waterways of Essex.

He attended Steve Hedges Photography courses which gave him the confidence and professional knowledge to develop his skills.

Mike said: “Documenting life and enhancing what I see in the photograph, highlighting the essence of my interest if you like, is my driving force.

“This has been an exciting exhibition to put together and I hope people will enjoy it as much as I did working on it.”

The Purleigh Bell is a 16th century ale house and may have been the home of George Washington’s ancestor Lawrence Washington, who was rector of Purleigh in 1635.

Landlady Kirsten Webb said: “We have a very rich heritage here in Purleigh and it is a wonderful backdrop for artists to exhibit and sell their work.

"It is a platform for pub regulars to show off their creativity whether it be painting, writing or photography.

“The diversity of work gives a fascinating perspective from the punters point of view and Mike Drane is the latest artist to take the limelight.

“Besides enjoying a good pint of Mighty Oak’s Captain Bob, he is a very prolific photographer.”
