THE entrance to a crematorium is due to be widened after plans were unanimously approved.

Colchester Council submitted a planning application to widen the entrance to Colchester Crematorium in Mersea Road.

The council also wants to partly remove the boundary walls and provide new gates and railings.

There will also be an electrical gate opening system.

The report said: “The proposed development is considered to be acceptable. “The visual impact of the proposal will be limited with no adverse impact on the established street scene or on landscape character.

“The potential increase in vehicle movements is not considered to be significant and as a result will have no detrimental impact on highway safety or cause any unacceptable harm to the residential amenity of residents.”

The plans were approved subject to six conditions, mostly regarding landscaping.

The planning committee approved plans at its meeting at the town hall.
