AS the weather gets colder, and snow gets ready to hit Essex, the Met Office has issued its top five tips for safe driving in icy conditions.
The majority of the UK has been issued with a yellow ice warning, meaning that untreated roads will be icy and to expect longer journey times.
1. Take care around gritters - don't be tempted to over take
2. Slow down - it can take 10 times longer to stop in icy conditions
3. Use a high gear - this will help avoid wheel spin
4. Avoid harsh braking - pump the brakes if needed
5. Manoeuvre gently - ease off the accelerator if you skid
Be sure to check the weather conditions and traffic information before you travel.
