IT’S not unusual for Sir Tom Jones to be singing...but it’s big news when he’s coming to Colchester.

Fans will be delighted to hear the global singing sensation, who is better known for performing at venues in Las Vegas, Hollywood and California, will be coming to Castle Park this year.

Mama told him not to come but the 78-year-old, who first found fame in the early Sixties, will be putting on an unforgettable performance at the park on July 21, with tickets going on sale from 9am on Friday.

The global superstar’s distinctive voice and iconic records have earned him a place as one of pop’s best loved artists with an eclectic musical mix spanning pop, rock, soul, R&B, dance, country and gospel.

He is unequivocally a living legend.

With a career spanning six decades and more than 100 million record sales under his belt, including hits such as Sex Bomb, Kiss, Delilah and What’s New Pussycat, his popularity as a live performer has not abated.

Nick Barlow, Colchester councillor responsible for commercial services, knows he will be burning down the house (or castle).

He said: “I am thrilled such a well-known and talented artist has been added to the summer concert line-up in Castle Park.

“This concert really adds variety to the exciting and extensive events portfolio Colchester has to offer.”

Tom is also a popular TV figure, reprising his role as a coach on ITV’s the Voice, having returned after his huge success as the mentor for last year’s winner Ruti, previously also mentoring Into the Ark who reached the final in 2017.

With numerous tours over the world under his belt, coupled with a legion of fans, his extraordinary career was recognised in 2006 through his knighthood from the Queen and a string of prestigious music awards.

This achievements included a Brit Award for Best Male and Outstanding Contribution to Music, a Silver Clef Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Hitmaker Award from the US Songwriters Hall of Fame, GQ Man Of The Year, and the prestigious UK Music Industry Trust Award.

The concert at Colchester’s Castle Park on July 21 will feature a collection of Tom’s most popular hits across the decades, including his latest albums.

Liz Doogan-Hobbs, chief executive officer of LHG Live, the event’s promoter, said: “We are delighted to be working with Tom Jones once again.

“He remains one of the most popular artists in the industry and truly captivates his fans whenever he takes to the stage.

“Colchester is a vibrant place, and we are certain the concert is going to be greatly welcomed, promising an evening filled with Tom’s most recognisable and popular hits.

“We are looking forward to seeing all his fans there.”

Tickets go on general sale on Ticketmaster.co.uk on Friday at 9am.

Standing tickets are available for £39.50, seated tickets are £50 and Gold standard tickets are £65.

The gig comes hots on the heels of the announcement Craig David will perform at Castle Park on June 2 and a series of concerts last year, including Steps and Blue.
