A YOUNG rugby star from Clacton has won a scholarship to a sports college.

Clacton County High School student Jack Light has been part of Northampton Saints’ Elite Player Development Programme for a number of years and is set to attend trials with the Eastern Counties rugby squad.

A spokesman for the school said: “Jack has been awarded a Sixth Form Scholarship at St Josephs’ Sports College in Ipswich.

Last term he attended an interview with the Director of Rugby at the college and underwent academic and fitness assessments, before being offered a place.

“Jack follows hot on the heels of his older brother Jamie, who was awarded a scholarship to the college in 2017.”

“Jack even had to play alongside and against his brother in an assessed rugby session as part of the selection process.”

Jack will continue his studies from September in the St Josephs’ Sports College Sixth Form as well as focusing on his rugby.
