A BOMB disposal squad was called to a police station after officers were presented with a hand grenade.
The Royal Logistics Core Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at Clacton Police Station this morning after the grenade was handed in.
The squad confirmed the grenade presented no "immediate risk" to the public.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "The RLC confirmed the item was safe and have removed it from the area.
"There was no immediate risk to the public.
"Our officers come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including a military background, aiding in the immediate assessment of risk and necessary steps to secure the item and make it safe."
Officers do not believe the grenade was intended for criminal use.
The spokesman added: "No other similar items are believed to be, locally, in the wrong hands.
"While very rare, when discovering military items such as this remember to back away to safety and immediately call the police.
"Do not handle or move any items similar to this - even ammunition."
