A fireworks extravaganza will light up Clacton Pier this weekend to mark Guy Fawkes Night.

The attraction is staging its seventh and final free event of the year on Saturday to thank customers for their loyal support over the holiday season.

And the always popular fireworks event is set to be bigger and better than ever this year, with the budget having been doubled for the 2018 display.

A special tiny tots display will kick things off with a bang at 7pm, before the main event starts at 8pm.

All of the pier's attractions will be open throughout the day for revellers to enjoy and singer Steve Richie and rockers Stuck in the Middle will be providing the soundtrack to the day's events.

Pier managing director Billy Ball said the free firework displays are all about giving something back to the community for their support.

“We are grateful to all our customers for spending their money with us and we like to do something to recognise that fact,” he said.

“This year we have gone for one earlier display for the younger ones and a second one at 8pm but there is nothing to stop anyone watching both for double the entertainment.

“There will be plenty of attractions to enjoy before, in between and after the fireworks.”

Over half-term Clacton Pier hosted a spooky Halloween Festival and has just launched its first Christmas party packages.
