KIND-HEARTED youngsters donated boxes stuffed full of food and supplies for the poor in Clacton.

Pupils from Oakwood Infant and Nursery visited the Salvation Army food bank, in Clacton, with a haul of food donated by parents and staff.

They were met by volunteers who took the youngsters on a tour, showing the different areas where the food is stored.

The children rolled up their sleeves and helped to put some of the food away as they learned more about why food banks are necessary.

They were told about supplies of certain products running low and the food bank’s Christmas toy appeal, which gives a present to any child who needs it.

Last year, the food bank handed out 1,416 emergency food supply packages to people in crisis.

Headteacher Kathy Maguire-Egan said: “We were delighted to accompany the children to deliver donations of food to the food bank.

“The school continues to support this worthy cause year on year.

“Our parents were very generous and the volunteers were exceptionally pleased with the donations provided.

“The children learned how the food is stored and distributed and their behaviour was impeccable.”

The young ambassadors were given a warm welcome by food bank volunteers.

They praised the youngsters’ behaviour and the impressive amount donated.

The pupils were also accompanied by the school governor Danny Mayzes, teaching assistant Lisa King and learning mentor Karen Warbis.
