CLACTON’S MP celebrated the launch of a new global tourism campaign as part of English Tourism Week.
Giles Watling joined tourism minister Michael Ellis for a drop-in session to meet with representatives of VisitBritain and discussed the new campaign called I Travel For.
The initiative, which has been running for seven years, aims to showcase the benefits of the tourism industry to local communities and the economy.
Mr Watling said: “The tourism industry is vital to coastal constituencies like Clacton. It is this industry that provides significant employment opportunities locally.
“Whether that is provided by those offering overnight accommodation, days out, restaurants, seafront attractions or shops. That is why I am proud to support this vital campaign, to ensure that we showcase the benefits of tourism along our fantastic Sunshine Coast.”
Mr Ellis added: “In 2017 more than 44 million Brits holidayed in the UK and this week gives us a chance to raise the profile of the destinations that are so important at creating jobs and supporting the local economy.”
