THE country's longest running summer show returns to Clacton throughout August - and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

The West Cliff Theatre has played host to summer shows more than 120 years and co-producer Aaron Lissimore is determined to bring back the glitz and glamour of its heyday.

"This is the second year its has been co-produced by the West Cliff and AJL Theatrical," said Aaron.

"The West Cliff is the only UK theatre that has a summer season continuously since 1894 so it's really traditional, but we are trying to bring it to a new generation as well.

"Some people remember it in its heyday.

"I was lucky enough to appear in the Cascade Revue and it really is in the same vane and quality as that, but with modern aspect to bring it to new audiences.

"If people haven't been for a few years I really would encourage them to come along and see it again."

This year's show stars Paul Eastwood who is well known for appearing on Cromer Pier and at the Thursford Christmas Spectacular.

Magician and juggler Jay Rawlings is a firm favourite on the cruise ships, and singers Kilke John***COR*** and James Waud return after a summer season in Clacton last year.

There are also eight professional dancers and four teams of children from Clacton's Company Performing Arts.

The show features music from 42nd Street and Barnum, as well as a big Face The Music and swing sections.

Aaron said: "We are very keen that it's a family-friendly show. Hopefully there is something that will appeal to each generation.

"There is a lot of comedy and the glitz and glamour is well and truly back at the West Cliff with dancers and costumes - it's a visual feast to watch."

The show runs from August 5-26.

Performances are on Tuesdays at 2pm and 6pm, and Wednesdays at 2pm, with gala performances this Saturday***AUG05*** at 2pm and on August 26 at 2pm and 7pm.
