A ROLLS Royce fan had the ride of her dreams in a kitted out vintage model complete with her own chauffeur.

Doris Woodward, 96, took a gentle spin along the seafront and around Jaywick in a standout 1975 Silver Shadow Rolls Royce.

It was all part of the Corner Lodge care home’s plan after Mrs Woodward hung her desire on the home’s wishing tree.

She has been a resident there for four years.

Mrs Woodward has held on to fond memories of the car ever since a young girl of about eight years old when her father, Richard Senn, worked as a Rolls Royce chauffeur for a company called Goldsmith.

She shared the stylish journey with her daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Brian Stanford, of Jaywick.

Brenda said: “Mum was ecstatic.

“I was only two when my grandfather died. He had bronchitis so all the children would help him get dressed for work and out the door because in those days you couldn’t risk losing a job.

“Although she never mentioned wanting to go for a ride, she’d always said what beautiful cars they were.

“I was absolutely amazed she remembered that far back in her childhood. It made me so happy because at the moment she’s going through a good stage and remembering quite a lot given her dementia.

She added: “The care home were going to keep it a surprise until the last moment but they didn’t want to shock her.

“To be honest at first mum was quite confused more than excited because of all the fuss being made, but as soon as she got into the car and it began driving along gently, she was absolutely fine.

“She kept saying how lovely it was and we’ll keep reminding her of the experience.”

Colin Wintle, owner of Luxury and Classic Wedding Cars based in Clacton, brought the experience to life.
