A GROUP which helps find lost dogs helped raise more than £1,000 for a dog who needs a hip replacement.

Tilly’s Angels, which has helped more than 40 missing dogs find their way home since it began a year ago, held a quiz night to raise funds for Monty, a giant schnauzer, who desperately needs the £4,500 operation.

Despite being just three-years-old, Monty, who is currently living at Acres Way Kennels, in Great Burches Road, Benfleet, has some serious health issues.

He needs a total hip replacement so he can run around without being in agony.

Tilly’s Angels learned about Monty’s problems when the kennel contacted them to ask if the Angels, who have a popular Facebook page, would share details of the fundraising page for Monty.

But the Angels decided they could go one better and raise some money themselves.

Helene Leader, who founded the group with Emma Waddell and Ann Cushion, said: “We said we would share the page and then got talking about Monty and, as we raised lots of money during a quiz night for us last year, decided to hold one for him.

“We held it at the Chalkwell Park Rooms, who gave it to us for free, and about 120 people came. It was absolutely packed, it was amazing.

“We also had a raffle and altogether raised £1,155. It’s really touching so many people turned up to help Monty.”
