A MAN defecated on the floor after breaking into Clacton Town Hall.
Police are appealing for witnesses following a break-in, which happened shortly before 1am this morning.
Ian Davidson, chief executive of Tendring Council, said the intruder gained entry to the building, in Station Road, through a window.
He said: "The man who broke in defecated on the floor.
"There's nothing to suggest this was politically-motivated and he didn't defecate on any political literature
"We don't believe that anything was taken during the break-in.
"He came in through a window and the alarm system was activated.
"He then left via the window.
"CCTV images captured the incident and have been handed to the police."
He added that staff were able to carry on as normal and the Town Hall opened for business as usual.
Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Det Insp Gary Biddle at Clacton CID on 101.
