AN unlucky black cat has ended up stranded 80 miles away from her Clacton home after hitching a ride in someone else's removal van.

A family moving to their new home in Cambridge were astonished when they discovered the feline stowaway in the back of the lorry.

They took the black moggy to Wood Green animal charity in nearby Godmanchester.

Vets gave the pet puss a clean bill of health after her long journey and called her JJ.

But the fugitive feline hadn't been microchipped so her owners could not be contacted.

The charity is now hoping her family will recognise JJ and come forward before they are forced to rehome her.Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

Spokesman Catherine Hasted said: "The family were moving from Clacton to Cambridge. They were amazed when they opened the back of the van and saw her.

"They brought her to us to look after.

"She is fit and healthy and now we are trying to trace the owner."

Catherine added: "She's a lovely looking cat and is in really good condition.

"But the message is to microchip your pets."

If JJ's owners recognise her they can call the animal charity on 0300 303 9333 ext 1255.
