A SEAFRONT site near Walton Pier is set for a £15,000 facelift in the run-up to summer.
The sheltered Colonnade area on Walton’s Lower Promenade has deteriorated over recent years and has become underused.
Tendring Council is now set to give it a much-needed makeover to bring it up to scratch.
Some work was done to the Colonnade last year.
It already has a new blockpaved floor in place and the walls have been repainted. New, high-quality benches are now being installed, along with olive tree and palm displays.
Frinton and Walton Town Council has pledged £5,000 towards the scheme, which will cost about £15,000 in total.
The town and district councils want the area to become a popular spot for seafront visitors again.
Tendring Council cabinet spokesman Nick Turner said: “The Colonnade is an established part of the town’s seafront which had, sadly, seen better days and was in desperate need of a makeover.
“By doing the work in-house, we have been able to keep costs down and I am sure that both visitors and residents alike will be impressed with the transformation.
“It is all part of the council’s ongoing efforts to upgrade facilities at all Tendring’s seafronts, which play such a major part in our local economy.”
The work will be completed by May.
