A HIGH-PROFILE councillor and former cabinet member will be hauled before a standards board hearing next week accused of lying to a community group set up to help victims of a gas blast in Clacton.
Kind-hearted residents set up a group to help those affected by the gas explosion in Cloes Lane, which destroyed two homes and left ten people injured, on February 5 last year.
Conservative councillor Stephen Mayzes, who represents Rush Green ward on Tendring Council, is now set to face a standards committee hearing after allegedly breaching the councillors’ code of conduct in relation to accountability and honesty.
The group have accused Mr Mayzes of lying to them and say they feel let down.
