VULNERABLE residents are being urged to ensure they do not miss out on extra help that is available to them.
Energy suppliers offer a range of free service to pensioners, disabled people, or those with long-term health problems if they sign up to the Priority Services Register.
The initiative is being promoted by Tendring Council’s Rural Project Panels, which is encouraging people to enrol and potentially improve their quality of life.
Services available include additional protection from bogus callers, free quarterly meter readings, priority reconnection if the supply is interrupted and much more.
The council’s member for well-being Lynda McWilliams believes it is important people are aware of the services they are entitled to.
“We have many vulnerable and isolated residents across Tendring and we want to make sure they know what free help is out there for them,” she said.
“It is easy to sign up but if you have any difficulties a carer can do it for you.”
The Rural Projects Panel is investigating a number of other ways people can get extra help and support with issues which affect their everyday lives.
