YOUNG speedsters from Tendring are set to zip around the streets of Rotterdam in a homemade eco-friendly racing car.
A team of students from Tendring Technology College have painstakingly developed their special eco racer, called Thin Lizzy.
They have been invited to take part in the Shell Eco Marathon, a massive energy efficient race around a specially mapped out street course in Rotterdam.
The Thorpe-based team is made up of six youngsters from the technology college.
They will be competing against students from all across Europe.
Team leader Tom Philpot, 14, said: “We’ve put a lot of work into the car. It’s made out of carbon fibre with a Honda engine.
“We are looking to achieve about 2,000 miles to the gallon.
“We’re all getting really excited about it now."
The competition will take place later this month.
