A HUGE turnout of residents backed plans for a new superstore in Clacton at a public consultation.
Asda wants to demolish an existing Co-op food store and build a new state-of –the-art shop in its place in Bull Hill Road.
The retail chain held a consultation at Clacton’s Princes Theatre to test public reaction to the plans on last week.
Hundreds of people flooded through the door over the weekend to look at the designs, quiz Asda staff and have their say on the proposals.
And the reaction was almost overwhelmingly positive.
Asda spokesman Philip Bartram said: “We have had a great response from the local community in Clacton.
“We were looking forward to speaking to as many people as possible about our plans and they gave us a lot of good feedback.
“We will use that feedback to move forward with our plans.”
But not everyone was impressed by the plans.
David Bell, of Valley Road said the development would ruin his home, which sits next to the access point to the site.
