COUNCILLORS have rejected plans to demolish a cottage in Walton and replace it with six new homes.
The application includes replacing Viking Cottage in Green Lane with a block of new properties.
But town councillors recommended refusal of the project, fearing it would be an overdevelopment of the site.
Concerns were also raised over the access to the area, and whether it would be able to take the additional traffic brought by six new homes.
Walton councillor John Halls said: “It would be a sin to knock that cottage down.
“It is a wonderful building, but there’s nothing we can do about that. It is not listed or anything.
“But I do think it would create too much traffic along a narrow road and would be too much for that site to take.”
Tendring Council will have the final say on the proposal.
