TOWN hall bosses say standards must be maintained in the face of cost-cutting plans to merge children’s centres.
Essex County Council plans to close some centres and combine them with other sites in a bid to save £2.5million by 2016.
But Tendring Council is working to make sure the quality of care and education does not drop as a result of any changes.
The county council proposal would see ABC Together Children’s Centre in Clacton merge with a site in Walton.
Holland Valley Children’s Centre would also join with St James Children’s Centre in Clacton, while Manningtree Children’s Centre would unite with a centre in Ramsey.
Other sites all across Essex would be closed and combined as part of the plan.
The district council wants to help shape a radical new approach to youth services to help maintain standards.
