Peter Gibbs

GIBBS Peter It is with sadness that we announce the death of Peter Gibbs, peacefully at home in Mistley, aged 82, on Tuesday 2nd February. Peter will be best remembered as PT Gibbs Chemists of Great Clacton, having owned the pharmacy at 15 North Road from 1962 until his retirement in 2006. He will also be fondly remembered as an energetic member of the local Round Table, 41 Club, Masons and for co-organising the famous Weeley Pop Festival in 1971. Born in Leytonstone in 1938 to a Shipping Line Executive and a Nurse. In 1940 his father was killed tragically young, fighting in WW2. Peter spent the war in Wales, moving back to London in 1945 and boarding at the Royal Masonic School, Bushey. The family moved to Clacton in 1948, where he attended Clacton County High School, later graduating in Pharmacy from Chelsea College in 1960. Widely known, respected and loved, in and around Clacton, he will be missed by many.
