I READ with much amusement in last week’s edition of the Gazette about the £49,000 awarded by the lottery to Jaywick to improve the area.

I do agree with some of the money being used to make a play area for the kids in Brooklands area etc, but as for planting 70 fruit trees, that to me, is ridiculous when the money could have been better used to improve Jaywick in other ways, fixing the roads and many other things.

Can anyone explain to me why this lottery money is being wasted on planting fruit trees? I, for one, can’t understand the logic behind this decision and I am sure many more Jaywick residents are also waiting for an explanation.
