REFERRING to the lead story “Every Little Helps” in last week's Frinton and Walton Gazette.
It was astounding to read that Tesco could stoop so low, in the quest to gain favour, presumably in the hope that it might obtain planning permission for a store in Walton.
Offering a sop to the local fundraisers, who are endeavouring to raise funds for a statue to commemorate the heroism of Herbert Columbine, is not acceptable.
To promise a donation towards the statue, on the proviso that planning approval is granted, will only serve to debase the whole concept of honouring such a brave man.
It is hoped that Tendring Council will not bow to this added pressure.
