AM I the only person to have a neurotic dog that is terrified by the bangs of the bird scarers? I now, unfortunately, have to walk my dog mainly on the lead, having had a few nightmare walks with her bolting for home, frantically waving at traffic to avoid her.
I realise that pigeons are a real problem for farmers, but would not the use of rocket nets, as used by the RSPB to monitor the population of wild birds, be a better solution. The pigeons could then be caught and disposed of humanely, instead of just moving the problem around.
It also worries me what affect the bird scarers are having on other ground nesting birds with the breeding season coming up?
Please could farmers be aware that by solving their problem they might be may be creating others.
