Saracens missed out on the opportunity to go top of the Aviva Premiership as Leicester claimed a bonus-point 28-20 win at Allianz Park.

Manu Tuilagi, Greg Bateman and Telusa Veainu all scored tries to put the Tigers in firm control at the break and Jonah Holmes added the bonus-point score on 65 minutes.

Max Malins touched down twice for Saracens but it came too late for the hosts, who saw a run of five straight Premiership games without a defeat come to an end.

The visitors ended a run of seven straight away losses in all tournaments, since beating Newcastle in round seven, and this was their first league win over Saracens since March 2016.

Leicester had an unsettling start as centre Gareth Owen suffered a shoulder injury after just two minutes with Mathew Tait replacing him for his 100th Tigers appearance in the league.

But the Tigers were able to get on top regardless and they took the lead on seven minutes as Tuilagi burst through a ruck to touch down for his third try of the season.

Matt Toomua added the extras with Saracens replaying through a Ben Spencer penalty, but the Tigers had their second score on the half-hour mark.

This time it was Bateman who picked up and went from the back of a ruck, again catching the Saracens guards napping, and sprinting away for the Tigers’ second try.

The hooker was penalised minutes later, though, as Spencer again reduced the deficit from the tee, but the visitors would have their third try prior to the half-time whistle.

When Australia international Toomua offloaded to Veainu the full-back still had plenty of work to do, but he stepped past opposite number Alex Goode and held off Nathan Earle for a fine try.

Earle twice thought he had got a score back for Saracens after the break only for the television match official to rule out the score as the winger dropped the ball on both occasions.

And Leicester would have the bonus point when Tuilagi capitalised on a Saracens mistake to send Holmes away, and Toomua made no mistake with his fourth conversion.

Malins skipped through the Tigers’ defence for a consolation score on 69 minutes with Alex Lozowski adding the extras before Michele Rizzo was shown a yellow card for killing the ball.

And the Saracens replacement repeated the trick with a minute left on the clock as the home team went in search of a bonus point, but to no avail.
