Junior Joey Avenell sought to continue the recent purple patch of form Harwich ABC are enjoying, when he fought in the final of the Haringey Box Cup Tournament at London’s Alexandra Palace.
In his Junior B, under 54kg category the 15-year-old faced Baudouin Atou from a Belgium Select.
It would be the older Atou who started the more purposefully, as he used his reach to good effect.
Avenell, upped his game in the second, as his now trademark straight right hand began to find the mark.
Avenell forced the pace further still in the last and as the Belgium national began to tire, he held on, which cost him a warning and added two points to the Harwich youngster’s score.
Gold would be Avenell’s, via a deserved unanimous points decision.
In winning this bout, the Harwich Club have achieved an unprecidented ten wins in a row, all within an eight-day period.
