It was a successful Torremolinos Open for two Essex darts players as Manningtree’s Alan Collins and Colchester’s Jamie Robinson partnered each other to not only the men’s pairs title, but, with the aid of Oxfordshire’s Welsh International Linda Jones, they also captured the Mixed Triples Crown.

Tuesday saw the first significant action of the week long event, played on Spain’s sunshine coast, with the Singles competition.

Collins was already showing some good form as he dropped just three legs in progressing into the semi final, while Robinson overcame Spanish soft tip champion Tab Hunter before he was finally undone by Sussex’s John Ferrell in the quarter final.

Wednesday’s pairs saw Collins and Robinson in tremendous form as they dropped just two legs on the way to the Semi-Final.

With Linda Jones in tow it was business as usual on Thursday. Once again the trio dropped just two legs on the way to Friday’s finals day.

Collins and Robinson were in sublime form in Friday morning’s semi-final, overcoming the strong French pairing of Ted Cowman and Martin Goodin 3-0.

Collins’ singles semi-final was a case of what might have been as he took on the Inaugural John Smiths People’s Champion, Glamorgan’s Tim ‘Teapot’ Jones. Collins dominated the early proceedings before Jones hit back.

Then two missed darts at double top by Collins proved costly in allowing the Welshman to take the match.

The mixed triples opened the afternoon’s finals action and the Essex pair, together with Jones, made short work of their Sussex opponents wasting no time in easing home 3-0.

The men’s pairs final was an altogether tighter affair with the Spanish based expats of Tab Hunter and Laurence Pink the opposition. The match went into the final leg but a missed bullseye for the match by the expats allowed Robinson to checkout on 56 and with it the title of Torremolinos Open Pairs Champions.
