Colchester United are hoping that striker Kurtis Guthrie will make his long-awaited injury comeback in their under-23 clash with Millwall later this month.

Guthrie has not played since February after undergoing ankle surgery last season but has been back on the training ground, taking part in drills with and without the ball.

And the U's have earmarked their Professional Development League Two clash with the Lions at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on September 25 as a chance for the striker to make his comeback.

U's head coach John McGreal said: "We're hoping that Kurtis will be able to feature in that game.

"He's in training with the squad, albeit not full contact, because we don't want to set him back.

"He's getting through a lot of work and we're hoping that date is there to stay for him and he gets some game time then."

Meanwhile, club captain Luke Prosser is due to see a specialist tonight about the knee injury that has kept him out of first-team action since last November.
