COLCHESTER Town Ladies under-16 captain Leia Rudge has become the first Essex-based female to scoop an FA Respect award.

She scooped the accolade in the individual players category, following a nomination from her sister and manager Hannah.

Leia joined Colchester Town Ladies at the age of seven and has played for all of their age groups.

In total, she has made 116 appearances for the team, scoring six goals.

And as captain of the under-16 side, she is someone that all her team-mates look up to for advice and guidance.

FA representatives spent two hours at the Boxted-based club filming Leia and other members of the club train.

In addition, interviews were conducted with Leia and other members of the club.

The prestigious FA Respect awards was launched in 2008 with the aim of uniting the game, while ensuring that football is an enjoyable, inclusive and positive experience for all.

More than 1,000 people were nominated for the 11 categories, this year.

Leia will receive her award on the pitch when England take on Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley, on October 5.

Colchester Town Ladies are on the lookout for players for their Ladies and under-16 sides.
