STUDENTS from the SD School of Martial Arts had a busy time as they had two teams travelling to two different competitions that fell on the same day.

The SD Phoenix team travel to Hertfordshire for the BCCMA National Kung Fu Championships.

A team of three entered two categories each and managed to bring home three British titles by securing a hat-trick of golds and three silver medals.

Jake Ashkettle secured the team's first two silvers, with Leon Roberts getting the third silver followed by the team's first gold medal of the day.

Lee Scrutton, in the final two categories, secured the team's final gold medals to complete a great day.

Meanwhile, at the London BJJ Pro Nationals, SD School of Martial Arts had a team of four, two of whom were at their first-ever competition.

Lloyd Johnson was first up and managed to finish fourth in his category, while Mike Hall only lost to his category's eventual winner in his debut competitive outing.

Jon Slack was another first-timer and after some tough bouts and a submission win, he placed third in his category.

Last entrant on the team was Martyn Morrisson, who, after a submission win in the semi-final, lost on a timed overtime round in the final to place second.

It meant the SD team returned with one bronze and one silver medal.
