AS the amateur boxing season draws to a close it was another busy time for Colchester Amateur Boxing Club.

Ben Lee and Louie Hudson travelled to Wymondham in Norfolk to complete on the Attenborough ABC annual dinner show while James Price and Jamie Beamer travelled to the Bexhill ABC open show.

Price was first into the ring as he faced John Cosgrove of Tenterton ABC.

As a short but powerful boxer, Cosgrove came forwards from the opening bell, trying pin Price into the corners and throw hooks to head and body.

After a close first round, Price showed his boxing acumen by changing tactics and moving around the ring more in order to confuse his opponent.

This forced Cosgrove to miss with most of his lead shots and allowed price to land clean eye-catching counter punches.

After an exciting competitive bout that showed the contrasting styles of two future stars, Price was awarded a unanimous points decision.

Beamer showed a very disciplined first round of boxing against Jack Dory-Palmer of Bexhill ABC, moving well in and out of range and landing effective long range combinations.

Dory-Palmer stepped up the pace, though, and was forced to battle hard as he and Beamer went toe-to-toe in the corners and against the ropes for the remainder of the contest.

Despite posting an impressive first round, the determination of the Bexhill boxer swayed the judge’s decision and a unanimous points win was awarded to Dory-Palmer.

In Norfolk, Hudson was unlucky to lose out to Louis Thomas of Norsemen ABC and Lee fought a hard contest against Lewis Nagle of Attleborough ABC. Hudson will be back in action on Friday night along with club-mates Joe Davies and Billie-Jai Day in what will possibly be the final bouts of the season for Colchester ABC.
