Colchester United aim to boost their play-off hopes at Morecambe today – with boss John McGreal urging them to chalk up their first away win of the calendar year.

The U’s are two points off the top seven with four games remaining and travel to the Globe Arena looking for a victory to enhance their aim of promotion back to League One, at the first time of asking.

Colchester’s excellent home form this season is second only to already-promoted Doncaster Rovers, with whom they drew 1-1 on Good Friday.

But the U’s have not won away in eight attempts and head coach McGreal wants them to change that sequence, this afternoon.

McGreal said: “Hopefully we’ll do what we haven’t done this year and win away from home.

“We made a great start (against Doncaster) and we keep doing that at home – we now have to mirror that away from home and hopefully, we’ll do that (against Morecambe).

“It was a terrific atmosphere and there are good things happening at the football club.

“Hopefully, we can maintain it and keep pushing and try and get in and around those play-offs.

“We’re going to give it a right go as we’ve said from day one and it’s all to play for, with four games to go.

“Back in November, we were bottom of the league at half-time against Cheltenham.

“Now we’re two points off the play-offs with eight injuries that we can’t count on that would be in and around the starting XI.

“You’ve got to enjoy it and it’s an opportunity to play at Wembley.”

Colchester go to Morecambe on the back of their draw with Doncaster, where Brennan Dickenson’s superb strike was cancelled out by Mathieu Baudry’s header scored in first-half stoppage-time.
