WIVENHOE TOWN gained another point in their quest for survival after drawing 0-0 at Haverhill Rovers on Friday night.

The Dragons remain third-from-bottom in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division but they are now four points above north Essex rivals FC CLACTON.

They also have three games in hand.

Friday’s point could prove a useful one for Mo Osman’s men, although they may feel they should have left with more.

Jamie Baker saw an effort come back off the bar and Adam Hampson won a penalty – only to see it saved by the Haverhill keeper.

However, it was still a step in the right direction and ended a run of five straight defeats.

Clacton had no game at the weekend and do not play again until April 8, when Walsham-le-Willows visit the Rush Green Bowl.

Elsewhere, STANWAY ROVERS had a new face in their squad for Saturday’s trek to Gorleston.

Jordan Blackwell has joined on loan for the rest of the season, from AFC Sudbury.

Gorleston led at the interval but debutant Blackwell had a hand in his side’s second-half equaliser – crossing for Romario Dunne to head home for Karl Duguid’s side.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC made the short trip to Hadleigh United and continued their encouraging form with a 3-0 victory.

Adam Bloss, Sean Bartlett and joint player-manager Michael Brothers scored the Imps’ goals.

The margin of victory could have been even greater, but Ollie Mann had two penalties saved by the Rovers keeper.

Brantham have now won four games out of their last five – managing clean sheets in each of those victories.

Their next fixture is a Friday night affair at home to Ipswich Wanderers.

In division one, there were victories for both COGGESHALL TOWN and HOLLAND FC.

Coggeshall defeated AFC Sudbury Reserves 3-1, thanks to goals from Henri Okosi, Danny Scott and Josce Syrett.

All the goals came in the first half.

Coggeshall are third in the table, a point behind Haverhill Borough and two behind leaders Stowmarket Town.

Intriguingly, Coggeshall and Stowmarket meet in a potential title-decider at West Street on Tuesday night.

Steve Eaton scored a hat-trick as Holland, now fifth, won 4-1 at March Town United.

The striker plundered his treble before Ray Turner added a fourth for Glenn Cowen and Rob Batten’s side.

HALSTEAD TOWN, now seventh, came a cropper at Diss Town, losing 4-0, but sixth-placed BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES won 3-0 at Whitton United.
