IT is all change at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club with their new captains appointed.

At their drive-in, new club captain Don Wiggins and ladies captain Anne Hemmings hit drives of 177 yards and 157 yards respectively, on the Gainsborough and Constable courses.

The new club captain's drive-in was attended by more than 200 members in a competition cut short to nine holes, because of the rain.

At the Ladies Section AGM, Betty Cox was congratulated on her successful year and Hemmings was elected to take her place.

Norman Davidson has taken over as the club's seniors captain from Lionel Hatch, with John Wheatley as his vice-captain.

Davidson's charity will be Kingswode Hoe School in Colchester, a Special School for those with moderate learning difficulties.

At his Seniors Captain’s Drive-in, Davidson hit the middle of the fairway with 174 yards off the tee.

Matt Thompson is Stoke by Nayland's new Junior Captain, replacing Sam Nixon.

At the Main Club AGM, new club captain Don Wiggins and his vice-captain Alan Line were elected.

The captain’s green jacket was presented to Wiggins by outgoing club captain, Ian Thompson.

Scott Brace, Peter Garnett, Mark Chaplin and Ian Smith have been elected to the committee.

Results: Gainsborough course: 1st P Sparkes/J Waterson 22 points, 2nd P Robbins/B Filer 21 points ocb, 3rd D Norman/A Leach 21 points, 4th D Holland/R Toone 21 points.

Constable course: 1st S Hawkins/J Jones 22 points ocb, 2nd I Phillips/M Howells 22 points, 3rd D Pritchard/J Jackson 22 points, 4th G Thompson/I Bennett 20 points.

A total of 26 ladies took to the Constable Course to play an 18-hole stableford.

Scattered showers and a strengthening wind making conditions tricky and unpredictable.

But the ladies battled on through the elements and in a closely-fought competition, Ann Thomas triumphed with 33 points.

Felicity Grundy was a point back on 32 points, beating Lesley Garnett into third on countback.
