AN exceptional performance was produced by the winners of Colchester Golf Club's Ladies’ Captain’s Winter Competition.

The team comprising Sheila Dornan, Janet Austin, Linda Freeman and Liz Napier were victorious at the event, hosted by ladies captain Jane Madge.

The competition was played as a Waltz format, where the number of scores from each team to count was 1,2,3 recurring.

The winning team produced an impressive performance to score 63 points, when 54 would have equalled a par score for the teams over the 14 holes it was played.

The competition started with the promise of showers but when they did arrive they were interspaced with bright sunshine, allowing the golf to live up to its promise.

It was also pleasing to note that another comparatively new member, Liz Napier, had added to the quality of the winning team.

Some five shots back and leading the 14 teams of four chasing the winners were Claire Hebden, Marilyn Wood, Pip Macaulay and Fiona Prentice who were runners-up.

In third place with 56 points were Janet Wilson, Alison Cordran, Doreen Lee and Roberta Bodsworth.

Just one point behind them were two teams separated by countback and taking fourth place were Beverley Parker, Madryn Abnett, Nerys Horrocks and Gill Crayston.

They finished ahead of Liz Lennox, Philippa Deman, Jo Mager and Pat Kettle, who were fifth.

Nearest the pins were won by Annette Wigley on the eighth and Bridget Whitworth on the 16th.
