Colchester United head coach John McGreal is adamant that his side will get back to winning ways sooner rather than later after they drew 2-2 with Morecambe this afternoon.

The U’s twice led through Chris Porter goals at the Weston Homes Community Stadium but the Shrimps hit back twice to secure a point.

The draw means Colchester have now gone seven league matches without a win and have dropped to 15th in the League Two table.

But boss McGreal the elusive win they are searching for is just around the corner.

McGreal said: “I feel for the boys.

"We need that win and it would have been nice to have had it at home.

“With the amount of work that they’ve put in over the last month or so and seven games, no-one has run away from us.

“If anything, we’ve been the better team but we just can’t get over the line.

“It will come – we’re still creating chances.

“They’re a terrific bunch and they’ll come good again.

“They’re really positive and I thought that some of the play was exceptional from us.

“The confidence is there but it’s just about getting that win and once we get that, that bit of belief will stand us in good stead.”

McGreal says they will rally around Sam Walker and Sammie Szmodics after their errors led to Morecambe goals.

McGreal said: “Errors happen in football and it’s now up to us as staff and the other players to regroup around them.

“It’s up to us to give them their confidence back again because we need them.

“They’ve been great players for us and they’ll come good again.

“It’s a game of football and mistakes happen – we’ll address it and analyse it but we’ll try and move on quickly for the sake of the two players.”

McGreal also had praise for the U's fans, in what was the lowest league crowd of the season at the Community Stadium.

He said: "I thought they were excellent from the first minute and they got behind the boys and gave them the lift they needed at times and even late on."
