John McGreal is staying grounded despite seeing Colchester United move up to second in League Two with a 3-2 win over Grimsby Town tonight.

McGreal said: "It's a great start for us but we're not going to give any numbers.

"We just want to try and win games of football and we've been fortunate enough to do that over the last two games but let's see what happens.

"We've set targets of trying to win games and we've won our first two home games.

"Is that going to happen right the way through the season?

"We don't know but all we've asked is to have a good start for our fans and with the new players coming in and we want to be together.

"When we do get a head of steam here, the fans get right behind you and hopefully, the last two games here can get a few more fans out to watch what we've got."

McGreal was pleased with the character his players showed to see out their win.

He said: “I have to give the players credit, to come away with the win.

“We were excellent in the first half and we got the three goals.

“It’s about the mindset and we came in at half-time thinking “can we get the next goal”.

“The next goal isn’t overly important but if they get it, it’s about the character that we have in the team.

“I thought that when they scored early, we showed a lot of character."
