Owen Garvan played for more than an hour as Colchester United's development side drew 1-1 at Hull City in their league opener tonight.
Garvan, who has been sidelined since picking up an injury in the U's friendly at Southend United last month, got some vital game time under his belt as the Wayne Brown's under-23 side secured a point in their Professional Development League Two curtain-raiser.
Jarrod Bowen gave Hull the lead from the spot, after Frankie Kent had been penalised for a handball in the area.
But the U's secured a draw in the closing stages through Tariq Issa.
Colchester's new academy signing Brendan Ocran, signed from Barnet last week, made his debut in defence.
Colchester United under-23s: Barnes, Ocran, Wyatt, Garvan, Peter, Kent, Brown, Allen, Sheriff, Issa, Edge.
Substitutes: Williams, Wright, Regis, O'Donoghue, James.
