Colchester United head coach John McGreal is hoping his side's 2-0 win over Cambridge United this afternoon is the first of many for his side this season.

The U's chalked up their first victory in League Two and their first under McGreal, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Goals from the impressive Brennan Dickenson and substitute Denny Johnstone gave Colchester a well-deserved win, leaving McGreal understandably delighted.

He said: “It’s a great start for our team and our fans and it was good to put in that kind of performance against a good Cambridge side.

“They had a fantastic result in midweek (against Sheffield Wednesday) but we knew that they had 120 minutes in their legs and we looked fresh.

“I just thought that start that we had gave us the platform to build from.

“You try and enjoy it and come sleep time tonight, I’ll probably be thinking about what happened in the game.

“But I want to enjoy it and I’ve been given an opportunity to manage a great football club – I thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully, there are more afternoons like there was today.

“It’s four points out of six which is a great return and what we did at Hartlepool last week gave us that little bit of a foothold to try and kick on with our first home game.

“I was really looking forward to it with the new signings.

“We have another game on Tuesday (against Grimsby) and it’s about recovering for that."
