TIPTREE Jobserve Bowls Club members have been enjoying some impressive results.

Robbie Bacon and David Harrington were selected, along with other Essex club members, to represent Group Two in the final of the 2016 Wally Ball Shield.

The Tiptree pair made a significant contribution to the match, from which Essex Group Two emerged as deserved winners, thereby retaining the coveted trophy for another year.

Tiptree’s Judy Bohannon (skip), Margaret Lawrence and Doreen Cottee became Essex ladies' triples champions, winning the Essex final by 18 shots to 16 against a triples team from Drums Bowls Club.

They will go to represent Essex in the national finals to be held in Leamington later in the month.

Bohannon has reached the county finals of the Essex Champion of Champions event, a competition to which she gained entry by becoming Tiptree Jobserve's ladies' club champion in 2015.

She saw off strong competition in earlier rounds and won her place in the finals, as area C champion, by beating the area B representative.

The club held its annual Freshman’s Cup competition, which is open to club members who have not previously won a singles title at the club.

The competition attracted a field of 14 players who each played four games, each of six ends, against their fellow competitors, randomly drawn from a hat at the start of the day.

Two players won all their games and consequently played in a six-end final to determine the winner of the cup.

June Collard won the toss and elected to take the mat.

She started in fine form and held all four shots at the completion of the first end.

Malcolm Easton responded to the electric start by Collard but only managed to secure second wood on end two.

The remainder of the final followed a similar pattern and, after five ends, Collard held an unassailable lead and Easton conceded the final at 10-0.
