COLCHESTER Harriers boasted the bulk of the fastest runners at the latest Maldon Promenade 5km Handicap race.

An impressive 17 of the first 20 quickest competitors to finish were from Harriers at the event, held on a reasonably windy evening in the Park.

Danny Millward (17 minutes 01 seconds) and Mark Harrod (17m 03s) had their customary battle.

Millward came out on top as the pair finished second and third.

Also in the top ten were Jon Nears (17m 26s), Doug McGillian (18m 02s), Max Caulfield (18m 13s), Alex Sales (18m 15s, personal best) and a returning from injury Ged McMillan (18m 21s).

Other Harriers top-20 finishers: Craig Mitchell (18m 29s), James Waterson (18m 38s), Richard Boden (18m 53s), Chris Manby (18m 58s), Keith Marley (19m 00s), David Wright (19m 02s), Kevin Higgens (19m 19s, PB), Richard Millward (19m 29s).

Other Harriers to finish: Craig Harley (19-49, PB), Dan Wilkinson (19m 50s), Heide Steele (20m 55s), Hannah Rodgers (26m 34s), Rachel Richardson-Wright (29m 17s).

Malcolm Statham ran two more marathons in consecutive days to bring his total to 184.

They were at Barrow in Suffolk and Statham clocked three hours 39m and 3h 47m.

Arthur Whiston (32m 41s) won the over-65 category at the Great Bentley 5, claiming the overall series crown.

Wayne Cook ran 31m 58s and was eighth the following morning at the Great Cornard Park Run in 19m 39s.

Martyn Clarke continued his Park Run at the Cassinbury Park event in Watford.

He ran well, clocking 18m 50s for fourth place, out of 286 starters.

Rachel-Richardson-Wright completed a very tough triathlon in the high peaks at Chatsworth Hall.

Harriers staged the latest Castle Park 5km park run.

A total of 325 runners completed the course, assisted by 53 pacers and marshalls from the club.
